Best Buy open-box items are returns that have been checked and resold at a discount. Each one gets a condition grade, and the grade tells you what is missing and how it looks, not how well it works: Best Buy says every grade works like new.
The three grades
| Grade | Looks | What's included |
|---|---|---|
| Excellent | Like new | All original parts, packaging and accessories, or a suitable replacement |
| Good | May have minor scratches or dents | May be missing non-essential parts, accessories or packaging |
| Fair | May have larger dents or scratches | May be missing parts and accessories |

Warranty and returns
Best Buy says open-box items follow the same return and exchange policy as new items, and many keep the same manufacturer warranty. Check the listing for the specific item, because warranty coverage can differ.
Which grade to buy for a GPU or SSD
- Graphics cards: Excellent is the safe pick. On Good or Fair, confirm the power adapter or cable the card needs is included.
- SSDs: cosmetic wear does not matter much on a drive that sits inside your PC. Check the drive's health with the maker's tool when it arrives.
- Whatever you buy, test it inside the return window. Our used GPU checklist covers what to look for.
